Daniel came to Taiwan to visit Celine in February, 2016. He arrived just before Chinese New Year. We spent Chinese New Year with Celine’s family enjoying delicious traditional food and family time.
After Chinese New Year, we spent two weeks traveling around Taiwan visiting friends and taking in all that the island had to offer. We drove down to Hualian where we met some friends and enjoyed the scenic eastern Taiwan coast and beaches. Then, we headed to Taitung where we spent time with one of Celine’s classmates and enjoyed the hot springs nearby.
After Taitung, we continued south to Pingtung and Kenting, the southernmost point in Taiwan, meeting up with another of Celine’s classmates. She and her husband took us to a bridge spanning a gorge. Although it was high above the ground and neither of us are huge fans of high places, we persevered, making it across the bridge.
We had the joy of meeting and reuniting with so many wonderful friends. The food and the sights were delightful. On one day we went to a restaurant on top of a mountain where they serve only food they grown or catch themselves. The menu changes daily depending on what is available. It was deliciousness, course after course.
When we finally made it back to Celine’s (now our) home in Keelung, we had one last opportunity for a truly Taiwanese cultural experience by spending an evening singing karaoke with Celine’s “sisters” (close friends who are not really related) and their husbands.
It was a beautiful trip we would love to do again after we finish with the rest of the world.
